NFAA Awards for Young Artists
Varies from $5,000 to $10,000
· High school seniors and other 17 and 18 year old artists in the performing, literary and visual arts. High school juniors of any age are not eligible
· Dance, Film and Video, Jazz, Music, Photography, Theater, Visual Arts, Voice and Writing
· There is a $35 on-line registration fee per discipline
· Limited amount of fee waivers available
· You may request a fee reduction by providing a copy of family's 2008 income tax return (1040 Form) or some other proof of hardship, such as a letter from your high school principal or counselor on school letterhead. If you qualify, your fee would be reduced to $10 although it would be limited to one discipline. If registering in more than one discipline or discipline category, you must pay the full fee for the remaining disciplines or discipline categories. Information at http://www.youngarts.org/Students/
· If invited to participate in ARTS Week, travel, meals, lodging, and participation supplies will be paid by NFAA.

Creative Visions Exhbition
Congratulations to Varela Visual Arts Students for participating in the Creative Visions Exhibition at the FIU Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum. Varela art department had the most high school entries and received almost all of the awards.

Hispanic Heritage Father Felix Varela Art Contest
The Hispanic Heritage committee is busying planning this year’s activities. There is $100 dollar prize involved given the Felix Varela Foundation (the group that worked to get the school its name). This year we are expanding the art contest to include posters, ceramic pieces, photographs, colleges, mosaics and original art pieces. The contest runes from September 15th and the art is due by October 15th. The winners are announced at the annual event where the foundation comes and does a lecture series and awards presentation.
