Art Abilities Exhibition

This design competition is open to all M-DCPS students through the school art teacher. Each art teacher may submit designs for final consideration by the ArtAbilities Committee of the Mailman Center.

GUIDELINES:

1) Miami is one of the most diverse cities in the United States. We want the student artists to depict aspects of their culture (or someone else’s) about which they are most enamored. The work may draw upon legends or fables from their family’s country of origin. For example, a student may draw poinsettias which they may relate to The Legend of the Poinsettia. They may depict animals from fables from the Mayan culture such as the story of the deer and the jaguar. Also, they may draw pictures or construct a painting of individuals in their culture’s history who have been influential such as Toussaint Louventure or numerous North American healers of African ancestry such as Daniel Hale Williams, M.D. or Charles Drew, M.D.

2) All designs must be the original work of the student. No reproductions of existing illustrations, copyrighted materials, or the work of others may be submitted.

3) Any 2-D or 3-D low-tech art installation is accepted. There is no limit on the number of colors used in the design.

4) Text or lettering may be used as a part of the composition.

5) Designs may be in a horizontal or vertical format. There is no size restriction.

6) All submissions should have identification information printed clearly on the back of the artwork. The identification information must include: name of the student, student grade, name of the school, name of the art teacher, contact telephone number, contact e-mail, artist statement and title of the artwork. (See attached form)
