The Division of Social Sciences and Life Skills, Art Education Program Office invites you and your students to partake in the exhibition Deconstructing Culture - mia-Gallery exhibition. Attached are the necessary submission forms.
Deconstructing Culture: A View of Diversity in our Community
Miami’s rich and diverse community serves as the basis for this exhibition. This city’s rich diversity and spirit of one community crosses the span of a wide variety of ethnicities. Students can explore works of art, artists, culture and society from, but no limited to: Central America, South America, the Caribbean, Europe and the Americas. Jose Bedia, Kehinde Wiley, Purvis Young, Daniel Botterro have utilized mixed media in a unifying method in expressing rich themes of cultural connections to their ancestors and personal identities, which incorporates their surrounding environments and community influences as expressed
through the contemporary methods of abstraction in addition to drawing on classical influences.
Open to grades K-12. 2D artwork should be no larger than 18” x 24” matted. 2D artwork ONLY!
